The ignition of the first flame of the pre-calciner of the Carthage Cement cement plant was successfully completed on Wednesday afternoon, marking the start of the start of production. With great emotion and pride, the technical teams made this ignition in the presence of international experts. This is a crucial step that marks the actual realization of this project promoted by a company confiscated after the revolution and which has experienced serious difficulties that have almost compromised.

Not only that, we have been able to bring it to an excellent technical standard with international standards, creating no less than 320 jobs, but also we are preparing to put on the market no less than 2.2 million tonnes of cement a year. This will respond to the growing demand of the construction sector in the local market and to a growing demand for cement in neighboring markets for reconstruction. These historic markets of Tunisia are being invaded by other producers because of the blocking of the export to supply the local market. The entry into production of Carthage Cement will help to avoid breaks in the local market and the recovery of our historic markets.

The ignition of the first flame comes as a prelude to the ignition in a few days of the production furnace. Upon validation of the regulatory tests, the release of the first bag is expected during the month of October.

Located in Mornag, in the southern suburbs of Tunis, the cement plant has a production capacity of 6,500 tons of cement per day. It is also backed by aggregate production units of 12,000 tonnes per day and an installed ready-mix concrete (BPE) capacity of 2,600 m3 per day.
